[April 8] Feeling Up for Fishing

That was a silly question. Couldn't he see the obvious wrongness?
It went against everything Adriaan believed in (which, admittedly, wasn't much).

"It'll make your pants dirty! And probably kill the worms anyway. Don't you have a...a jar or something?" Were worms kept in jars? Or those little plastic containers? Adriaan never fished, so he wouldn't know. But it seemed to make sense.

Royd still couldn't quite see what the problem was, but the part about the worms dying was reasonable. Perhaps that was why Adriaan was freaking out.

"Touche. But I forgot to bring a container with me so I don't have anything else. Unless I should put them in my hat?" Royd fished around in his pocket for the two worms he'd already found. He reached up to take his hat off.

Adriaan could only conclude that this man came from a horrifically barbaric country with people running rampant through giant mud pits and no laundry machines. He tried not to shudder.

"Maybe...maybe your hat would be a little better," he conceded. It was a very cute hat, although to say so out loud would be decidedly unmasculine.

Royd shrugged at Adriaan's strange expression and took his hat off, putting the few worms inside. He went back to business, trying to get enough bait for a good round of fishing.

Ten minutes later found Royd with a good pile of worms.

"Phew," sighed Royd, standing up straight while wiping his forehead. "That seems good enough for one round of fishing." He looked over at Adriaan, who was still hunched over the ground.

"You can stop now, I think. Are you going to help me fish too?"

And there goes that whole water problem again.

Adriaan added his worms to Royd's pile. "Um. No. I'll just hang back here by the trees."

He watched Royd carefully for any signs of doubting his motives as he pulled out a comb and began to fix his hair.
