Whoa there. This was not acceptable.

Adriaan gave Romano a smack to the back of the head to stop his awkward shuffling.
"Did you just wink at my sister? What the fuck? Don't do that."

He gave Belle a See-this-problem-child-causing-problems-and-look-how-completely-innocent-I-am look. Damn this kid for making him look bad.

All Belle could do was blink in surprise when her brother reached over and smacked him, her hand coming up to bat his away.

"H-Hey, don't hit him. He probably just had some pollen in his eye or something," she said sympathetically as she tried to think of who it could be. Someone she knew well, huh? Well, aside from him she knew Spain and Francis pretty well. And there was her brother of course.

"I'm putting my money on Antonio. He DID kiss your hand and all that the other day, after all..."

"Ow!!" Romano shot a glare of death at the asshole behind him. "I'll wink at whoever I fuckin' want! Don't hit me, dammit!" When he turned back to Belle, his demeanor changed once again and he was all smiles and happiness. Until Belle spoke.

Why did everyone assume he was gay?! Was it that hard to realize that Romano was a perfectly straight man?! Did no one see his desparate attempts to gain Belle's favor for the past forever or what?!

"N-N-No!!", he stuttered, his face oh-so-totally red and looking as flustered as one can get without exploding. "That-!! That didn't mean anything, dammit!" Even if Spain had looked rather ha-

Romano took the flowers from Netherlands and uttered, "Uh, um... They're a bit smushed, but wanna go to the dance with me, Belle?" He held out the poppies, and he couldn't resist glancing at Netherlands with a somewhat smug grin.

Oh, she hadn't even realized she had said anything to make him go completely red. Usually it was one of the boys who managed to get that kind of reaction out of him. She was almost proud of herself before she saw him snatch the poppies out of her brother's hands and hand them to her instead.

Belle blinked at the sudden offer. It was so early in the term that she hadn't expected anyone to really ask her yet here Romano was, offering her flowers and an invitation and, well-- it isn't as though anyone else had asked her yet. With a small smile she took the flowers and nodded.

"Alright. It isn't like anyone else has asked me. I can have just as much fun with a friend."

Adriaan, who had zoned out for a while, was jolted back to reality in one hot second.
Romano? With his sister? No fucking way would he let that happen.

He was about to launch into a diatribe about just how unacceptable this was when he actually stopped to absorb what Belle had said.

"I can have just as much fun with a friend."
She thought they were going as friends. And clearly Romano had other intentions when he asked.
Suddenly, all was right with the world again.. Adriaan looked at Romano and smirked.

He felt at the top of the world when Belle took the flowers, smiling and nodding, because dammit, no matter which country you were from (or which country you were, rather), that was definitely a yes!!

But then she spoke. Ouch, was that a pierce to the heart or what? If no one else had been around, Romano may have broken into tears. But he tried to muster as much of his masculine pride as he could!! He couldn't help but give Netherlands a quick kick to the kneecap for that damn smirk before turning back to Belle.

"Sounds good!", Romano replied, trying not to sound pained as he gave her a grin. This was just a step in the process, of course!! She might say that now but there would still be plenty of time for wooing at the actual dance! And plus, he could hope that she said that as an April Fool's remark. "Spain and Netherlands could go together, since they haven't asked anyone," he said with just a bit of smugness.

Flowers, POPPIES to be exact. It was an unconventional choice but he must have thought they would really mean something to her if he went through the trouble of finding a bouquet this nice for her. Or, well, semi nice. There were a few bruised and torn petals from his argument with Adriaan no doubt. But they were still nice and it was very thoughtful of him. She offered him another smile, completely missing the swift kick to her brother's knee-- otherwise he would have gotten an earful from her.

"Maybe they could," she laughed softly, turning to glance at her brother. "I really don't care who he goes with just so long as they aren't still in grade school..."

In case you were wondering, those last few words were POINTEDLY exaggerated.

Adriaan gave Romano another shove and rolled his eyes at Belle. "Please. I haven't done the grade school thing in ages. Let it go."

He then considered the possibility of going to the dance with Spain. While it would surely make Romano internally jealous to see his boyfriend with such a paragon of masculinity, Adriaan feared that Spain's cute fluffiness would rub off on him and taint his image. And that, of course, would be unacceptable.

"Besides, I doubt I'm going to the dance anyway."
