[ April 4th ] Agriculture Assignments

The assignment was simple and the project gave Spain plenty of time to not have to start it today or even start it within the next month. It was actually something he loved to do so to say that Spain was quite happy with the fact that he would have very little homework in his agriculture class was a bit of an understatement.

Basically, what they had to do was grow a plant. Students or groups were given a pot, some soil and a small watering can but the rest was up to the students. They could grow whatever they wanted and whoever grew the best plant got five points extra credit on their final grade!

Spain already knew what he wanted to grow! There was no question in his mind, he practically had already purchased the seeds and grown his lovely plants...and eaten them. That would probably be the best part in the end too! Though, he had to wait to show off his beautiful plants, his beautiful tomatoes!

Romano never got good grades in any of his classes. Ever, really. Maybe he just wasn't cut out to be a nation, maybe it had something to do with being half a nation, but he just sucked at the classes here at Hetalia University.

If there were anything that he was even remotely good at, it was tourism, fishing, and agriculture.

Therefore, he was determined to beast this project. He actually had a pretty good grade in this class already, but considering how bad some of his other grades were (fuck economy!!), he really could use some boosting.

Like Spain, he had gone with good ol' tomatoes. Not the easiest to raise, but Romano had definitely gotten the hang of the art from his childhood days. And now, he was sure he could raise even better tomatoes than his former teacher!!

Romano had already planted his seeds in the pot of soil. He decided to set the pot next to the window of the Agriculture classroom, just next to the direct sunlight, and lovingly gave it some watering. When the plant grew big enough, he could move it outside! He tried to pretend that his eyes weren't sparkling at the thought.

When the project was assigned, Adriaan was blooming with confidence. Of course he was the greatest at agriculture. Everyone knew that.

His confidence quickly faded, however. To begin with, the professor had gotten irrationally concerned when he found Adriaan trying to grow a marijuana plant. In fact, he threatened to call the cops and brought those silly laws up again. And he may have scheduled an appointment with the school counselor. Not to be discouraged, Adriaan set out to grow tulips, only to find that the climate of this country was entirely unsuitable.

In vain, he tried to get the bulbs to take to the horrible soil, fueling them with his passion and man-rage.

"Grow, dammit!" he muttered at the wilted thing that had emerged, all the while glaring at the goddamn tomato plants that Antonio and Romano had so un-creatively decided to cultivate.

Matching plants. It didn't get much gayer than that. That fruity-ass Italian salivating over the prospect of tomato-growing wasn't helping matters either.

Spain carried his pot over to where Romano was with his. Nothing had grown yet but he was impatient for his tomato plants to be blossoming and thriving and producing beautiful and red fruits of deliciousness!

"Romano, is anything growing in yours yet?" he leaned over and looked into Romano's pot, bumping it accidentally. It fell to the ground, shattering the pottery immediately. Spain gasped loudly, devastated. He bent over and tried to pick up the spilled soil. "Oh no!" he yelled, "Lo si--I'm sorry, I'm sorry!"

Romano sent Netherlands a skeptical glance as he heard cursing. You couldn't raise plants by cursing! You had to love the plant!!

... Not that he would ever say that. He... heard that from Spain. Yes, that was it.

But then Spain came over, and next thing he knew, there was a loud shatter that made him jump and yelp in shock. And then he looked down and the whole pot and soil was scattered all over the floor.

... Well, fuck.

"Dammit, Spain! You dumbass!", he groaned in exasperation, trying not to feel too sad or devastated because feeling that intense of an emotion over a plant would be unbecoming. (... But still!!) He gave the guy a good whap on the head before bending down to pick up the pieces of flower pot.

With a frustrated sigh, he hesitantly spoke, "Whatever, it wasn't growing yet, anyways. Don't freak out, dammit. Got any spare seeds?" Romano turned to look at Netherlands and said, "Hey, jerk, make yourself useful and get a trash bag!"

Adriaan disposed of the defective bulbs in favor of fresher ones. When he, the master champion of all agriculture couldn't grow a tulip, something clearly out of his control was at fault.

He had just finished packing the new soil down and had tried to relocate his watering can when he heard the most annoying crashing sound. When annoying things happened, he knew at once to look for Romano to blame. Romano, who dared to shout at him! Unacceptable.

He didn't bother to answer, just shook his head in disapproval and stole Romano's watering can.

Spain held up the half filled packet of seeds and shoved them at Romano, "I have some!" he said, almost demanding that he take them. "Where will you plant them? Do you have another pot?" He wanted to weep dramatically at the fact that he had just murdered Romano's baby tomatoes and that they would never grow into full and delicious ones.

"You can plant them in my pot if you don't have another one!" he showed Romano the beautiful pot that he had lovingly adorned with the Spanish flag. He figured they could put an Italian flag sticker on the bottom or something if Romano was feeling particularly patriotic.

He then went on to watch the Netherlands borrow Romano's watering can. It was so nice that Romano had such good friends.

With a very rare moment of dexterity, Romano swung his leg out and tripped the Netherlands.

Pretending that nothing had happened, he took the seeds from Spain's hand, but his face turned stoic at the sight of the very Spanish pot. After staring at it for a moment, he scowled. "Hell no! Not unless you take that fuckin' flag out." He was about to suggest putting an Italian flag in it too, but that would symbolize their togetherness and that was the last thing he felt like doing.

Of course, he could always ask their professor for a new pot. Since it was agriculture class, there was probably a lot of extras. But Romano had a personal policy to attempt the path of least effort first.

Romano's leg sprung out suddenly, and Adriaan was so surprised he nearly fell flat on his face always prepared for everything and thus able to nimbly do that awkward badass hop-skip-jump thing one does when trying not to fall.

The jolt probably wrecked havoc on his hair, he realized. His triumph over his defeat of Romano's sheer childishness diminished at the thought, and he whipped out his pocket comb and mirror.

Sitting down, he set to work, abandoning his bulbs for the moment in favor of cultivating volume. Every so often, he'd shoot a man-glare of doom to the working pair, letting Romano know that he was not pleased with his fuckery.

Spain put on his ADAMANT FACE, "The flag stays," he said, obviously not as forcefully as he would really like it to be. However, he felt that it would probably get his point across if it were Romano. It should also be noted that Spain was immune to Adriaan's manglares and only greeted them back with a friendly smile and a wave.

"Would you like to grow tomatoes too?"

Romano didn't really like it when people didn't do things when they were told to (mostly when they were being told by him). His displeasure at Spain's determination was displayed all over his face. "That's no fair!", he protested, crossing his arms. With a pause, Romano decided with a pout, "Fine, I'm getting my own pot then."

Spain seemed to fail at noticing the murderous glares that Netherlands had been giving them as he fluffed his ridiculous hair. Damn him and his natural volume. "What the hell, don't let him join!", Romano told his fellow tomato farmer. Almost as if they were two boys conspiring against a girl in a No Girls Allowed club. Or not picking the lamest person for dodgeball while picking teams. Romano didn't mind comparing Netherlands to either.

Grow tomatoes? A small battle raged inside of Adriaan's head, but eventually his love for tulips beat out his desire to anger Romano. He shook his head at the offer, but in a non-intimidating way because it was Spain. And Spain was okay. Not to mention he was immune to intimidation.

But apparently Romano really didn't want Adriaan breaking into their little clique. He couldn't help but smirk at his adamant refusal. Besides, there was really no possible way for Romano to act any gayer at this point. He could feel the bad metaphors radiating from his limp Italian hair.
"So you two are growing tomatoes together, now?"

Spain held his pot out. So unloved, so unappreciated. Was it because of the glorious Spanish flag that lovingly adorned it? It couldn't be. The reds and yellows would compliment the tomatoes wonderfully when they began to grow and that couldn't be the real reason why Romano wouldn't grow tomatoes WITH him. Still, it brought a sadness to his face that was only increased when the Netherlands refused his offer to grow tomatoes as well!

If neither of them wanted to grow tomatoes with him, that was fine! He could name them all and sing them all Spanish lullabies without having to worry about being judged or being yelled at.

"I think Lovi is going to grow them in his own pot," Spain told the Netherlands. He looked sadly at the flag in his pot as he said that. He COULD remove it if that meant Romano would grow tomatoes with him. SUCH DILEMMAS!! Then maybe if Romano joined, the Netherlands would see how much fun they were having and join too!!

Romano's eyebrow twitched. Again with the Lovi business. What the hell was up with that whole Lovi thing, anyways?! Not even his Grandpa or brother called him that, and that was saying a lot!!

"Damn right I'm growing them in my own pot!", he proclaimed, and also he sounded very defiant in his words, he also sounded a little disappointed about it too. (No, he didn't want to grow tomatoes with him, dammit!!) "I'll get my own pot and it'll be just dandy. In fact, I love having pot." Romano scowled, not noticing the double meaning of his grammatical mistake. Oh well.
