Ten Facts About Your Character: (Oh my, this is out of order, eh? Sorry...)
- The first thing I should inform you of is Matthew's love of anything that has to do with maples. Maple trees, maple syrup, maple leaves; Matthew likes them all. Matthew is also an avid fan of hockey and enjoys playing on a team whenever he has the chance. He's probably even on the University's hockey team. It is most likely the only place he actually stands out and is noticed.
- Matthew secretly really wants to burn the book "I Am America", but figures it would be bad to burn a schoolbook, so he quietly accepts it. (Even if he is mentally reprimanding the foolishness of it all.) Being sometimes mistaken for an American whenever he goes traveling, he has gotten into some...rather unfortunate situations. Thankfully, he has survived these incidents. It does, however, make him resent being mistaken as an American from time to time.
- Matthew was born in Ontario. After a few months, his father was offered a job in Paris, so his family moved there. Matthew spent majority of his early childhood there, being taught French by his school and English by his parents.
- However, Matthew's mother was transferred by his company to another country; The United Kingdom. Matthew was only 5 during this transfer. Coming to the United Kingdom certainly was a shock. It was really rainy and people didn't speak French, which was what he was used to speaking. But Matthew quietly adjusted to life in a new country.
- That is, until Matthew's mother was again transferred back to Canada when Matthew was ten. Matthew once again quietly consented to the move, but this time found himself happier in Canada. It was a peaceful life and he found it suited him well.
- Matthew has a quiet voice and has overly polite mannerisms. His everyday life isn't exactly exciting; he can spend a whole day sitting alone pondering over things and still feel content. He isn't used to a city like Boston, so having many things to do in a city is foreign to him and he probably doesn't go out much unless invited.
- Matthew is generally unnoticed by his peers. He can be ever the optimist, waiting for someone to notice him, yet in the end, it is rare someone does. He alternates between being optimistic that someone might notice him and mentally shooting snarky remarks at people for ignoring him. Of course, he never voices out these thoughts in the end.
- Because of this, you can often see (if you can see him in the first place) Matthew looking sullen when he isn't recognised. However, it also gives him the opportunity to be observant and watch the scenes; Matthew is rarely noticed and in turn notices a lot.
- Matthew really isn't a conflict kind of guy. He has always been the kind of person to take whatever comes to him as peacefully as he could...this is probably why people fail to notice him. He avoids confrontation, and whenever he does feel the need to express himself it usually ends up going wrong because he's either too passive to express himself fully or he suddenly feels intimidated. (Looking at you, Alfred.)
- Matthew has a certain appreciation for the wilderness. He loved the snowy terrain of Canada during the winter, and enjoys the forests and trees. Majority of his teenage life was spent simply wandering around the forest nearby his small town in Canada.
- This will probably become apparent later since this role-play takes place in Boston, but people tend to forget about Matthew during the Fourth of July hype. Unfortunately, his birthday is around this time as well. Matthew gets depressed when people forget about his birthday because of the holiday.
A secret he/she wouldn't want anyone to learn about: Matthew probably wouldn't want anyone to know what he really thinks of people sometimes (particularly Alfred). If he were to let his true thoughts be spoken, he might reduce someone to tears. While he would be relieved about this at first, he would feel a bit guilty later.
Favorite Color: Red and white~ Those are the colours of the Canadian flag. Please don't add blue. He doesn't need to be mistaken for an American any more than he is from time to time...
Anything else?: Do you know that phrase "A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet"? That isn't true for me. *smile* Interpret that however you would like. This would be my first time playing Matthew, but I've got a Canadian friend on speed-dial. So hopefully I won't make too many mistakes, eh?
Oh, and I don't know how to relate Matthew to Alfred. I-if Alfred would like these two to be related or something, do tell...*becomes invisible* (I mean, I don't know how they can be brothers with their birthdays so close together...Maybe cousins or half-bros so one of us can be Canadian and the other American, eh?)
