Post by Professor Pangaea on Mar 14, 2010 19:20:10 GMT -5
Having an outdoor assembly in the spring was one of Professor Pangaea's favorite things in the world. Partly because the weather was so nice that it put the man in such a great mood. However, anyone who knew Professor Pangaea knew it was because the auditorium had been installed with normal sized doors and they knew that he did not like using it for just that reason. As he lumbered up to his podium, he looked on at all of his young pupils as a rainbow appeared behind them.
"Yes," he thought as he chuckled warmly. The new year started tomorrow and he was already feeling optimistic! "This will be a good age."
He gave his welcoming speech loud and proud and ended it with a loving rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow on the ukulele. He gave the same speech every year so it was a familiar thing to him and he knew it like the back of his hand. Once he was finished, he smiled at all of the aspiring countries-to-be and made his way off the stage, one massive step at a time.
((OOC: Starting things off with a chaotic super thread. Anyone/everyone is welcome!))

France would have to agree- the day was indeed beautiful, what with the sun shining and the flowers blooming. He smelled a rose he had snagged from a bush earlier. Oh, oui~ Spring was sure to come.
He waited until Professor Pangaea - a figure that was hard to miss for obvious reasons - was done talking, before he set out to talk with the person right behind him.

Spain hadn't been listening to a word Professor Pangaea had said. Not because he didn't care or didn't respect him. He wasn't even distracted or anything. He had just sensed a boring lecture and gone into auto-shut-down mode. Typically, this involved falling asleep on his desk but when he was sitting in a chair, he just retained a dumb smile.
He sensed someone next to him and quickly turned to see his good ol' buddy, France. "Hm?" he asked, not even bothering to pretend as though he had been listening or paying attention.

Romano remembered the previous year, his first year attending the school. He clearly remembered sitting in his seat, stock-still as the Professor loomed onto the stage and tortured them all with an all-too-sunny speech about the lovely world and ukelele songs about dreams and peace. Romano remembered wondering, somewhere in the back of his head, if the Professor had been on acid. He also remembered being totally horrified by the time the assembly had finished.
Romano could handle it this year, though! He was definitely used to the eccentricities of this school. Not to mention that the assembly was exactly the same as last year (down to the very same rainbow).
Unfortunately, that was not the case, and Romano was still just as horrified as last year. Was this really the only university for nations?!
All too willing to forget what just happened, the Italian stood up to leave. He did spot the head of one particular Spain, and he contemplated maybe stopping by and greeting him. But then he noticed the Frenchman by him, and Romano decided that maybe walking quicker was the better option. Maybe if he was fast enough, they wouldn't notice him! One could only hope.

Spain might not have been actually distracted, but unfortunately that was the impression he gave out to everyone who was around him, France included. He rolled his eyes in a dramatic manner, knowing very well how Spain rolled - pun unintended.
"I asked if you had managed to check with whom you were rooming" he said, fixing his hair as he spoke, just in case someone was watching, and giving a quick look around to see if he could find any other familiar faces. Unluckily for Lovino, France did see him- and smiled in a predatory manner. "Oh, is that not one of the Italian brothers~?

After spending then entire morning getting things set up in her dorm, Belgium was more than a little grateful to be outside, breathing in the fresh air and the faint scent of the wild flowers already growing in abundance throughout the campus grounds, the sun warming her skin as she sat idly on a bench not too far from the podium for the ceremonious welcome speech.
She had always found Professor Pangaea a very charming and charismatic man, so listening to a speech she had heard before really wasn't as tiresome or redundant and one would think it to be. In fact, she had found it rather comforting, a familiar and all encompassing reminder that school is indeed starting tomorrow so remember to brush your teeth, go to bed early and eat a good breakfast tomorrow, kids, because by this time tomorrow you'll be lugging in books, notebooks, highlighters and a pile of homework up to your ears back to your room.
When the speech was finished and the song had been sung, she took it upon herself to scan the dispersing crowd for a familiar face, hoping to reunite with her friends sooner rather than later... and possibly hit up the dining hall for some food.
As if some cosmic force had peeked into her head she managed to spot two all too familiar faces conversing not too far off. A small grin tugging at her lips, she quickly stood to make her way over, calling out happily.
"Francis! Antonio!!"

He rubbed his chin thoughtfully to show France that he was, in fact, thinking about the answer to his question. "Not yet," he replied. Spain wondered who he would have the grand pleasure of rooming with this year. Certainly someone with an appreciation for PASSION, tomatoes and telenovelas would be preferable but Spain would take whoever he got. "Maybe you're my room--" he started before his Italian-Senses began tingling.
Then France confirmed that an Italian was indeed nearby. There was a 50/50 chance that the Italian behind him was adorable and a 50/50 chance the the Italian was Romano. Either way, Spain won! He turned around and saw who it was.
"Romanoooo~" he said, happily clinging around Romano's waist in a tight hug. "Why didn't you sit next to me?" Just when he thought his smile couldn't get any bigger, he heard another voice and turned to see Belgium. "Bella!"
If only Spain had another set of arms to hug with.

Sitting with arms wrapped around his waist and legs crossed, the Chinese watched as the professor who had sent the letter of acceptance to him lumbered up onto the stage. China had to admit---he was...an awful...er...larger than expected. However, the dark-haired boy had no qualms about it. The Professor had a cheerful countenance and a knack for picking nice days to give an assembly.
Feeling his long locks of hair being ruffled slightly by the wind, China watched as a rainbow seemed to appear out of nowhere, taking it all in stride. This Professor really was a unique being. Despite thinking this and trying his hardest to listen in to the opening message/song, the Chinese felt himself invariably distracted by the other people who where also in attendance at the ceremony. He felt...amazed to say the least, to see so many different types of people, each giving off their own vibe. It was quite fortunate, really, that he would be able to spend a year here.
When the Professor had concluded, China had stood up, stretching slightly--feeling his bones give a light pop. Everybody seemed to be congregating with each other and catching up. As much as he hated to say it, he felt a tad out of place when everybody seemed to get along so well, already. His fingertips pressed together in slight anxiety, wondering if he would be able to make some new friends. At that moment, a rather strong gust of wind blew by, and shook the hairtie from his ponytail, inky hair spilling out. "A-Aiyah!!" Chasing after it, he didn't even notice as he passed a group of students, three boys and a girl.
His hand finally gripped the hairtie and he huffed, wondering why he kept his hair so long to begin with. With a practiced motion, the ponytail was back in place and the Asian country was looking to catch his breath.

In the process of his escape, he noticed that Spain had spotted him. And was grinning in a way that was anything but innocent. Romano was seconds away from breaking into a run to get away from the damn French bastard (he swore they were all out to get him!!), but then Spain grabbed him.
"Dammit, let go of me!!" he shouted in an almost panicked tone, hands struggling at the constraints that held him from the lovely enticements of freedom. After all, France was right. There. And still looking at him!! He was just about to try a good punch to a face (it didn't matter which face it landed on), but then he heard a voice.
Or rather, the voice.
One could practically see the roses blooming around the background of Romano's atmosphere, a charming smile coming across his face. Finally, a shelter of relief!! A gift from the heavens!! An actual woman!
"Belle!" he practically breathed in happiness, all attempts at escape ceasing. With a slightly nervous cough, he asked in a rather masculine manner, "How have you been?"
And right then, yet another pretty girl passed by, right under his eyes! He blinked in curiosity as he saw the girl catch her hair tie, out of breath, and he divided his attention for a moment to ask, "Are you alright, miss?"
[[OOC: Yeahh, I'm just gonna assume Romano doesn't know China yet.]]

Belgium found herself stopping just short of the group as Spain managed to catch a wild Romano mid run, he always did have a talent for catching the poor Italian when he did NOT want to be caught, but she could do nothing but laughs softly to herself and smile at the sight as she approached them.
"Hello," she greeted cheerfully, hands slipping into her back pockets as she gave Romano a curious look for the sudden baritone in his voice. "I see you got caught... " she started again before both of their attentions were stolen by a mop of long, flowing, raven hair rushing past them.

Oh, dear. France could not help but smile at how soon they had been surrounded by so many people, even if Spain was more focused on one in particular.
He was distracted from checking out the best route of access for Lovino's vital regions by the sound of a familiar voice greeting him. "Oh, Belle~ And here I was thinking I would not get to see you today". Since Spain was so busy keeping hold of Romano, he slipped an arm around her shoulders as a way of greeting.
Of course, France was also curious about the Asian beauty that had just walked by. Lovino had already called out to her, but he figured he might as well butt in. "Do you need any help?" He is using one of his most charming smiles, by the way.

Spain took a hit to the the nose and relinquished his hold of Romano, nursing it tenderly. Fortunately, it was not bleeding but a punch to the face definitely put a damper in his smile. Frowning, he stood up and let out a short sigh. WHY DID ROMANO HATE HIM WHEN HE SHOWED HIM NOTHING BUT LOVE?!
He'd have to ask France about this later. (He was top notch at giving advice, after all.)
Spain was just about to comment on just HOW uncute Romano had been when he noticed that nobody was paying attention to him. Not even Romano! And here Spain had given him a hug, taken a punch to the nose and then gone on to be ignored.
Subtly, he slid away from the violently NOT cute Italian and approached France and Belgium, still making sure his nose wasn't broken. "Nice to see you, Bella!" he greeted.

((OOC: -Snerk.- Oh, man. Wry so effeminate, China. And, er. I sort of imagined him to be a new kid. 8U))
"Ah..." Turning around, it seemed as if two of the people he had just run by were...directing questions towards him. A hand rose up to tuck a wayward strand of hair behind his hear, flushing slightly, and hoping that the "miss" was just a trick of his own ear. A-Aiyah, I hope I'm not causing a scene. But, I'm glad. It seems like people here are friendly, aru. Thinking to himself for a few seconds, he then formulated a proper response.
"H-Hello, aru. I am fine, thank you for asking." Smiling and voice quiet, he hoped that he didn't seem too awkward to this group of friends. "The wind just had a disagreeable moment, is all, aru." Nodding a few times, he could feel his heart skipping beats. Meeting new people never really was his strong point.
However, he watched with concern as one of the boys looked to be in a touch of pain. I hope he's alright, aru...

"I don't see why you wouldn't," she replies to France cheerfully, her attention stolen once more. "I had to show up today as well."
Belle had hardly taken notice to the outburst, having become to used to the display over the years, and greeted the Spaniard with her usual friendly smile. "Hello, Antonio. How's the nose?"

Ah! This Asian chick wasn't exactly the prettiest Romano had ever seen, but she was certainly adorable, with her shy and gentle mannerisms! It was cute how flustered she was getting and it was never something you found in guys! That was why Romano liked women. And was blatantly straight. Very straight. Obviously.
Deciding to do his part to make the girl feel a bit more welcome, he valiantly sacrificed the time he could have been using to woo the pretty Belgian to charmingly state, "Well, I'm glad it was nice to you in the end! After all, who wouldn't be nice to such a striking being?" Romano gave a chuckle and a subtle wink, making his lame attempts at flirting clear to essentially everyone in a five-mile radius.
